Wine in Tuscany
Tuscany is one of Italy’s most important wine-producing regions. It is home to internationally renowned labels that boast an extraordinary variety of wines and a thousand-year-old tradition. The territory, covered by hills, has allowed the region to become one of the beating hearts of Italian production of excellence today.
However, the history of wine in Tuscany dates back to the time of the Etruscans, who inhabited this area between the ninth and first centuries B.C. and were the first to cultivate vines. The Romans then refined wine-making techniques, and wine soon became a widely consumed beverage, eventually being regarded as a medical remedy and secret of long life.
